Expert Care for a Healthier, More Confident Smile

Crowns and bridges are the foundation of modern restorative dentistry - bespoke ceramic restorations that rebuild damaged teeth and replace missing ones, designed to feel and function exactly like the originals. Whether you need a single crown to protect a vulnerable tooth or a multi-tooth bridge to restore a gap, the goal is the same: a result indistinguishable from natural enamel.

At Denmark Hill Smiles, every crown and bridge is planned and placed by Dr Wassim Chawich, our in-house Prosthodontist Specialist with over three decades of experience in complex restorative work.

What are Crowns and Bridges?

A crown is a bespoke ceramic cap that fits precisely over a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its shape, strength and appearance. A bridge uses one or more crowns to replace a missing tooth, anchored to the healthy teeth on either side or supported by dental implants. Both are hand-crafted in a specialist laboratory to match the colour, shape and translucency of your natural teeth exactly.

Your Crowns & Bridges Journey

Restorative work at Denmark Hill Smiles is approached as a long-term investment, not a quick fix. Every crown or bridge case begins with a detailed assessment of the affected tooth, the supporting teeth around it, and the overall function of your bite. We'll discuss the materials available ceramic, zirconia, gold, or porcelain-fused-to-metal and recommend the option that best balances strength, aesthetics and longevity for your specific case.

Photographs and digital scans are taken before any tooth preparation begins. What follows is a carefully sequenced two-appointment process. At the first visit, the tooth (or supporting teeth, for a bridge) is precisely prepared, scanned digitally, and fitted with a temporary while your bespoke restoration is being made. The crown or bridge itself is hand-crafted in a specialist laboratory by master technicians typically over two to three weeks then bonded into place at your second visit. Dr Wassim oversees every detail to ensure the final result feels exactly like your own tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does implant surgery actually hurt? arrow_forward_ios
Implant placement is performed under local anaesthetic, so you won't feel pain during the procedure itself — most patients describe it as no more uncomfortable than a routine filling. Some mild soreness and swelling for two to three days afterwards is normal and easily managed with standard over-the-counter pain relief. For more anxious patients, we offer oral or IV sedation to keep you fully at ease throughout.
How long does the whole process take from start to finish? arrow_forward_ios
Most cases take three to six months from initial implant placement to the final crown being fitted. The bulk of that time is healing — the implant needs to fuse fully with your jawbone (a process called osseointegration) before the final restoration can be placed. Some simpler cases can be completed faster, and same-day implants are possible in certain situations, but a slower, more patient approach almost always produces the most reliable long-term result.
Will my implant look like a natural tooth? arrow_forward_ios
Yes — when done properly, an implant should be indistinguishable from your natural teeth, both to look at and to bite with. The crown that sits on top is hand-crafted in a specialist laboratory to match the shape, shade and translucency of the teeth either side. Dr Wassim's specialist training in prosthodontics is exactly about this kind of detail — the natural lustre, the gum contour, the subtle imperfections that make a tooth look real.
What happens if I don't have enough bone? arrow_forward_ios
A common situation, particularly if you've been missing the tooth for a long time. We can usually rebuild bone where it's needed through procedures like sinus lifts, block grafts or guided bone regeneration — these add three to six months to the total timeline but make the implant possible. Dr Wassim is experienced in all of these procedures and accepts referrals from other practices for complex bone work.
How long do dental implants actually last? arrow_forward_ios
A well-placed, well-cared-for implant should last twenty years or more — in many cases, the rest of your life. The implant itself is biocompatible titanium that fuses permanently with bone. The crown on top is replaceable if it ever wears or chips, but the implant beneath rarely needs to be touched again. Regular hygiene visits and good home care are the two most important factors in keeping an implant healthy long-term.
